Consent-Based Health Record Exchange, Done Right

The real power of ABDM is interoperability — a patient's records flowing securely between every hospital, lab, and clinic they visit. That exchange runs on two roles: the Health Information Provider (HIP), which shares records it creates, and the Health Information User (HIU), which fetches records with patient consent. Medi4u builds both capabilities into your existing software and gets them NHA certified (M2 & M3).

Our HIP Integration Service (Milestone 2)

Care Context Linking

Automatic linking of OPD visits, IPD admissions, lab orders, and prescriptions to the patient’s ABHA — with SMS/OTP and demo-auth flows.

Consent Notification Handling

Webhook listeners for consent grants, revocations, and expiry — fully automated, no manual intervention.

FHIR Record Packaging

Your data transformed into NHA-compliant FHIR R4 bundles — prescriptions, diagnostic reports, discharge summaries. Powered by our FHIR API development.

Encrypted Data Push

ECDH key exchange and encrypted data transfer to the requesting HIU exactly per ABDM security specs.

Our HIU Integration Service (Milestone 3)

Patient Discovery & Consent Requests

Request records by ABHA address with purpose-of-use, date ranges, and record types.

Record Fetch & Decryption

Receive, decrypt, and validate FHIR bundles from any HIP on the network.

Clinical Timeline View

Render fetched records as a clean, doctor-friendly patient history timeline inside your EMR.

Audit & Compliance

Complete audit trails of every consent and data access, ready for NHA and DPDP Act compliance.

Typical Timeline

Week 1–2: Discovery & Sandbox

System audit, ABDM sandbox onboarding, and integration architecture design.

Week 3–6: HIP Build

Care context linking, consent handling, FHIR packaging, and encrypted data flows.

Week 6–10: HIU Build

Consent requests, record fetching, decryption, and clinical display.

Certification & Go-Live

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a HIP (Health Information Provider)?
A HIP is any facility that generates health data — hospitals, clinics, labs, pharmacies — and shares it on the ABDM network with patient consent. As a HIP, your software links care contexts to the patient’s ABHA and responds to consented data requests. Full explainer: HIP & HIU Explained.
What is a HIU (Health Information User)?
A HIU requests and views patient records from other providers — for example, a hospital fetching a patient’s previous lab reports before surgery. All access is consent-based through the ABDM consent manager (HIE-CM).
What is care context linking?
Every visit, prescription, or report is a "care context" linked to the patient’s ABHA. Linking care contexts is the core HIP responsibility — we automate it inside your OPD/IPD workflow so records link without extra staff effort.
How does consent management work in ABDM?
Patients grant, deny, or revoke access to their records via consent artefacts managed by the HIE-CM. Our integration handles consent notifications, artefact validation, data encryption, and expiry automatically. Read: ABHA Consent Management Guide.
Do I need HIP before HIU?
Yes, NHA certification is sequential: Milestone 1 (ABHA), then Milestone 2 (HIP), then Milestone 3 (HIU). Medi4u takes you through all three — see our complete ABDM integration service.
